Back to the Beginning

Following on from my stepping-back from things on the run-up to Christmas, I’m now venturing forth once more. The world remains just as baffling to me – as I’m almost certain it does to you – but that’s unlikely to change anytime soon and one can only remain AWOL for so long.

What’s new then? Well, I suppose the first thing I should mention concerns gigs. I have a couple coming up this month here in the North East of England (see below) and the year beyond is taking shape, including some shows down South in the Spring, about which I shall say more soon.

Regarding the gigs in my own neck o’ the woods, I’m returning to play Toft House in Middlesbrough on Saturday 27th January. It’s a cracking venue and always a joy to play there. You can buy tickets in advance here for £8 or pay on the door (£10), subject to availability. There’ll also be support from the marvellously named Growing Old Disgracefully. Prior to Toft House, I’m so looking forward to being at The Lubetkin Theatre this coming Sunday (21st) as part of Festival 75, the town’s 75th Anniversary celebrations. As well as sets from several other brilliant artists, I’ll be performing a selection of original material, PLUS two brand new songs written in collaboration with two classes from different schools in the town. Working on this project has been an absolute honour and I can’t wait to play this show and be joined by the fantastic pupils for the new songs too. Tickets for this event are just £7.50 (general admission), or there are a number of special £20 tickets available for reserved balcony seating. Find out more/book here. Oh, and headlining the concert is Paul Smith from Maximo Park!

What else…? I’ve been working on some new material, if that’s of any interest! I’m currently in the process of writing something that is shaping up to be a bit of a beast, in fact. I’m hoping to be able to perform it live very soon, possibly even at Toft House if I can have it finished and knocked into shape in time. Also, I’ve treated myself to a new effect pedal which I think may suit this new number rather well. Either way, I’m looking forward to debuting it very soon. And don’t worry, it’s nothing daft; I just think it may complement certain songs well. (Come along and you’ll see/hear!)

Right then, I think that’s enough waffle for one blog.

Except to say a huge thank you to everyone who sent me such encouraging messages towards the end of last year. They were so very appreciated, as were any and all kind thoughts, expressed or not. x

Here’s to 2024 then. I’m sure we’ll be there for each other in whatever ways we can, and say and do all that is in a power to see that we reach the year’s end in a better place than where it begins.

As always, hope remains very much in our hands.
