2017: Over & Out... Almost

I do hope things are well with you as we approach the imminent holiday period. That said, it’s almost certain that for some of you, life could be treating you a little better... and if that’s the case, I hope and pray that it soon will. x

Things are settling down here somewhat now. We’re growing into our new life in the wonderful North East of England and after a busy year with the music too, I’m approaching my final gig of the year this Sunday. Appropriately enough, it’s just a few miles from home in the heart of Durham at the excellent People’s Bookshop. There are just a few tickets still remaining so if you’d like to come along, click here for all the details and to book. By the way, it’s an afternoon gig so you can be there and still be sufficiently rested to face Monday morning with all your usual vim! The superb Sam Slatcher will be supporting. An intimate afternoon gig in Durham at a progressively-minded bookshop... that feels like the perfect way to end a pretty special year.

As for 2018, there are live dates coming together which will be starting to appear on here very soon. I’m keen though to get out there and play as much as possible next year, so if you think you might be interested in putting on a SP gig yourself - either at a local venue or maybe a House Concert - please do get in touch. It’s not nearly as scary as you may think! Just drop us a line here with any thoughts or questions you may have and let’s see what we can do.

It's not too late to grab a CD (or two) for prezzies, by the way! Order by Monday 18th and with a little help from Royal Mail, I'll make sure your order reaches you in time for the Big Day. Just pop across to the shop.

Some of you will have heard new songs at gigs in recent months... others are taking shape and I’m looking forward to working on those more soon. The feedback to the new material as been incredibly positive and very much appreciated. You can view a video of new song Same Smile, Same Words here, as performed at a recent Live In The North East gig in North Shields.

I played my first Sofar Sounds gig last Sunday, also in Durham. Had a great time and the photo above comes from that evening.

So then, a HUGE thank you to each of you for the support you’ve given me and this music over the course of 2017, in all its varied forms. I can’t believe I’m doing this, or so much of what this year has brought to pass. I wish all of us a very happy Christmas (or however one celebrates the season) and for 2018, a year of blessing, courage and the necessary strength and loving purpose to face the challenges which doubtless lay ahead... for us as individuals and collectively as the Human Race.

Onward...

“And we took to the streets, that old song to sing:
‘We will not be defined by the hatred you bring.
You don’t speak for us, and you never will!’
We sang it out loud... we’re singing it still.”
